Vitalij Viktorovic Zadde, the head of the Laboratory of All Russian Institute for Agriculture Electrification has visited Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies. During the visit he presented solar cell and evacuated window manufacturing technologies as well as chlore free technology for solar grade silicon production.

A meeting of the National Photovoltaic Technology Platform was held during which the issues regarding the political situation of the national and European PV technology platforms, the perspectives of the establishment of the PV technology cluster as well as the admission of the new members to the Platform were discussed.
Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies is the administrator of the Platform.

December 3-4, 2007

6 month SELFLEX meeting was held in Vilnius. During the meeting the members of the consortium and Mr. Pietro Menna, European Commission project officer, discussed the activities during the first months and the results achieved. The first Deliverables will be submitted to the European Commission. In addition, the participants of the meeting visited the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania where they presented the SELFLEX protect to the Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Arunas Keraminas. Mr. Keraminas expressed the positive position of the Ministry regarding the project as well as promised the support for the establishment of the pilot solar cell manufacturing plant in Lithuania and provided the information on getting the Structural funds support for the financing of the solar cell manufacturing.

The project "Promotion of High Added Value Business in Lithuania. Stage II. Development of Innovation Friendly Environment for High Tech and Medium High Tech Companies" has successfully ended. During it the technological potential of SMEs was evaluated during the technological audits, a seminar HOW TO WRITE A COMPETITIVE PROPOSAL FOR FRAMEWORK 7 was organized, The Concept of the Effective Dissemination Tool for the Knowledge About Technologies and Innovations in Modern Society, the Model for the Technology Demonstration Center, KIBS Models, the Report on the Impact of KIBS for the Growth of the Competitiveness of the Companies, Innovations and Regional Development were drafted.

Linas Eriksonas has visited the two largest Danish technology transfer centers - Danish Technological Institute and DELTA Institute. During the meetings with the heads of the knowledge transfer to SMEs departments the knowledge intensive business service models as well as good practice were discussed.

Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies in cooperation with the Agency for International Science and Technology Development Programs in Lithuania organized a seminar HOW TO WRITE A COMPETITIVE PROPOSAL FOR FRAMEWORK 7 as part of the project "Promotion of High Added Value Business in Lithuania. Stage II. Development of Innovation Friendly Environment for High Tech and Medium High Tech Companies" financed by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania. The seminar was presented by Henk van Ekelenburg, director/owner of the Dutch consulting company Pro Support B.V. which has an extensive experience in writing and managing FP projects. The representatives of the Agency for International Science and Technology Development Programs in Lithuania also gave presentations during the seminar. Linas Eriksonas visited Pera Innovation Park (United Kingdom) as part of the project "Promotion of High Added Value Business in Lithuania. Stage II. Development of Innovation Friendly Environment for High Tech and Medium High Tech Companies" financed by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania. During the meetings with PERA Group European Business Director Martin Wassell and Director of PERA Scotland Tony McKelvie Pera business model as well as good practice providing innovation services to low and medium tech companies were discussed.

Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies, UAB PRECIZIKA METROLOGY and UAB EUROPARAMA signed the Partnership Agreement regarding the establishment of Functional Electronics Laboratory. Research activities at Functional Electronics Laboratory will include the development of thin films and coatings technologies as well as the functional electronics devices.



September 20-21, 2007

Julius Janusonis participated in the seminar "Laser Technology in Photovoltaics" organized by Institut fur Solarenergieforschung in Hameln/Emmerthal (ISFH). during which he presented a report "Groove ablation in crystalline silicon and SiO2 passivation layer removal using femtosecond Ytterbium DPSS system". The workshop aimed at discussing the emerging applications of the laser technology in the solar cell manufacturing was attended by more than 150 solar, laser industry and research institutes' representatives.



September 3-7, 2007

Algirdas Galdikas, Vida Janusoniene and Darius Janusonis participated in 22 nd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Milan, Italy during which the new trends in wafer based solar cell manufacturing technology and new processes that can be used in self-formation technologies were observed. In addition, the visual presentation "Single Step Selective Emitter and Self-aligned Metal Grid" was presented.

Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies signed an agreement with The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Business Support Agency regarding the financing of the project "Promotion of High Added Value Business in Lithuania. Stage II. Development of Innovation Friendly Environment for High Tech and Medium High Tech Companies". It is a follow-up of the project "Promotion of High Added Value Business in Lithuania. Stage I. Development of the tools for promoting innovation in the national technology platforms' companies according to R&D priorities". During the project the technological audits of the companies are performed based on which innovative ideas and the technological fields in which the companies have the potential for innovations are identified. Moreover, the concept of effective dissemination mechanism for knowledge about the technologies and innovations in contemporary society will be drafted, the main instrument of which will become the Technology Demonstration Centre. In addition, the business models for knowledge intensive business services for different SME sectors will be developed based on EU experience with the aim to improve the Lithuanian innovation system infrastructure.

The international consortium coordinated by Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies has started to implement a three year FP6 project SELFLEX (Demonstration of SELF-formation based FLEXible solar cells manufacturing technology), Contract No. TREN/07/FP6EN/S07.70666/038681 SELFLEX. The overall objective of the project is to demonstrate at industrial scale cost-effective crystalline Si PV cells manufacturing technology based on highly innovative manufacturing concept - self-formation.
